Frenkie de Jong opens up about Chelsea, Manchester United transfer links
As far as Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong is concerned, the previous summer's transfer window was tumultuous.
If media claims are to be believed, the Spanish heavyweights made a big effort to get the Netherlands international out of Spotify Camp Nou because they wanted to get rid of his high salaries and make money from his sale.
In order to do this, the Catalan outfit and the Red Devils even struck an agreement in principle, but the 25-year-old declined to move to the Threatre of Dreams and work under his former coach, Erik ten Hag.
Chelsea also showed a lot of interest in the Ex-Ajax prodigy.
De Jong, however, still insisted on staying at Camp Nou since he felt at home there and was determined to be successful in Catalonia,
The Club had had different plans for him, the midfielder recently admitted in a press conference that he never had any intention of leaving the La Liga heavyweights.
De Jong said, when asked about Chelsea's and Manchester United's interest, "I had already decided in May that I wanted to stay. So I was very calm myself.”
The Dutchman emphasized that things had not changed with his teammates and that he is content to have stayed at the club, saying: "I now feel welcomed at the club, nothing has changed with my teammates.
De Jong's playing time has decreased this season, even if he may have stayed a Barcelona player. In 8 games
